About

Marden Sports Club provides outstanding sporting facilities for all members. We aim to retain the rich heritage and grass roots character of the old club while embracing new techniques, modern coaching and the latest facilities.

The club attracts members from Marden and surrounds, as well as from further afield across Kent and East Sussex. The club has a long tradition of warm hospitality and we are always delighted to welcome visiting teams to Marden. Sport is played at competitive levels in various leagues and in a range of age groups, with coaching across all sports. Beginners and those keen to return to a sport are welcomed, with appropriate coaching and opportunities for friendly open club sessions.

Our Objectives
  • To create a centre of sporting excellence
  • To develop a nursery for young talent, with optimal coaching and modern facilities
  • To create sport-by-sport development programmes that allow players of all ages
to achieve their full sporting potential
  • To provide junior members with a structured environment to facilitate personal development outside sport
  • To foster engagement with the local community
  • To instil club values across all sports and all members: Teamwork, Pride, Respect, Commitment
People power
It’s not quite a cast of thousands but a lot of people make this club what it is. Mostly volunteers, they help run the club, arrange fixtures, manage the different sections, coach, umpire, organise juniors, captain teams, ensure welfare and more.

FAQs

The club is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC). As such, the club’s structure is in line with most similar organisations and it has a fairly standard constitution.

There is a board of trustees who are effectively ‘custodians’ of the club legally speaking.

There is a President and a number of Vice Presidents whose role is honorary and who have no governing role in the running of the club. The Management Committee, comprising Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary look after the day to day running of the club.

Other officers such as Marketing, Membership, Social and Welfare support this decision making body. This body is supported by the General Committee, with key officers and a representative from each section, and it meets to ensure inter-club communication. The President also sits on this committee.

Yes please! This is a complex club to run and we try very hard to keep costs to a minimum so that subs can be kept low. As a consequence, most roles are voluntary and we do rely enormously on the goodwill and commitment of volunteers.

The broad areas where we could really use some support are as follows. But please don’t hesitate to come forward if you feel you can offer any time to help out.

  • Management (finance, systems, admin, outreach, event co-ordination, welfare)
  • Premises (upkeep, venue hire)
  • Marketing (social media, PR, web, digital, videography/photography, advertising/sponsorship)
  • Sport (captaincy, team admin, coaching)

You will receive pertinent emails from the club regarding anything from membership issues to new protocols or key events.

In addition you will be emailed the club newsletter, TEAMtalk. Published more or less monthly, this aims to provide a broad sweep of news and to highlight key news items that might be of interest to most members.

For past issues of TEAMtalk, see the NEWS page.

For sport-specific matters, and team-related information, you will be emailed by your sport or by your captain. You are likely to be involved in relevant WhatsApp groups too, and each sport has its own social media channels.
